Everyone has a book in them.

Be a Hit.

Build the habit. Finish the book. Decide for yourself what a hit looks like.

Be a Hit is Habit in disguise.

The letters B E A H I T, rearranged, spell E H A B I T: Everyone Has A Book In Them.

Take away the E for Everyone and you are left with HABIT. That is the secret. Books are not written in one big heroic weekend. They are written in small sittings, one after another.

Build the habit and the hit looks after itself.

What counts as a hit?

A hit is whatever you say it is.

You do not need a bestseller or a big cheque for this to count. A hit is what you set out to do.

  • You finished it.
  • Your family read it and asked for more.
  • It opened doors for your business.
  • You finally said the thing you needed to say.
  • It is on a shelf with your name on it.
  • You wrote it with someone you care about.

Finish this sentence before you start: This book is a hit if ...

Write your answer down and keep it where you can see it.

How it works

What Be a Hit gives you.

Everything is built to help you keep going, on your own or with other people.

  • A board for your chapters

Move each chapter from Outline to Researching, Drafting, Editing and Done. Give each one a due date and, if you want, a target word count.

  • An ideas board

Collect ideas in one place, talk them through and vote In or Out. Only Authors decide what goes into the book, so the final call stays with you.

  • A gentle daily habit

Set a goal in words or minutes, run a 30 minute sprint, and hide everything else while you write. Streaks, celebrations and reminders are all optional, and you can switch the game parts off at any time.

  • Falling behind is fine

Miss a few days and you get choices, not a telling off. Lower your goal, take a rest day or a break, spread what is left, or move the deadline.

  • Stuck? Get an exercise

Thirty-six short writing prompts for the moments when the next sentence will not come. Your answer saves as a note on the chapter. Nothing is ever typed into your book for you.

  • Write with other people

Invite as many people as you like. Authors write, Contributors add ideas and comments, and Reviewers read and give feedback. Chapters can be handed to a reviewer and sent back.

  • Your words stay yours

The app never writes or rewrites your book. The writing check only makes suggestions, and you decide what to do with them.
